18-04-2012 DNA Cascais reaches the 150 companies boundary

Ten new businesses bring 238 thousand euros to the municipality and create 15 new jobs. The Minister for the Economy and Employment, Álvaro Santos Pereira, will join the presentation of the new businesses.

Proving the value of entrepreneurship, the Cascais City Hall presents ten new businesses created with its support on April 18th at 5pm at the DNA Corporate Nest. These new businesses raise the number of businesses created in the municipality benefiting from municipal support through DNA Cascais to 150. On the same day, a new space at the Corporate Nest, which recently underwent enlargement works in order to enhance the start-up incubation capacity, will also be open.

Both the Minister for the Economy and Employment, Álvaro Santos Pereira and the Mayor of Cascais, Carlos Carreiras, will be present at the ceremony.

Marginalarm, XCorp Software, Wangry Bonk Assessoria, Manuela Nascimento - Accounting and Management Single-member Company, Ecologicalkids Cascais, Artcandle, Buzz Design & IT, Your Buzz, First Support Business Consulting e MEDVELI are the new businesses that Cascais now sees come to life. They represent an initial private investment of 238 thousand euros and the creation of 15 new jobs. Over the next three years, the investment should reach 379 thousand euros and the number of employees should rise to 29.

These businesses benefited from municipal support through the DNA Cascais agency, namely in consulting services, help with the drafting of business and risk mitigation plans, facilitating access to financing and investment collection mechanisms.

150 businesses - 16.2 million euros invested

In five and a half years of activity, DNA Cascais supported the creation of 150 new businesses. "This means that the private sector injected 16.2 million euros in the municipality's economic fabric and 411 new jobs were created", Carlos Carreira, Mayor of Cascais, explains adding that "until 2015, this investment should reach 23.1 million euros and bring employment to 744 people, which proves that Cascais is one step ahead in the way to an entrepreneurial and innovative community. This is the way out of the less easy moment we're at right now", the official stated.

Concerning the areas of activity, the biggest share of investments is found in Business Services (17.8%), Specialized Businesses (13.7%), Health & Well-being (13.7%), Advertising, Communication and Design (13%), Electronics and Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies (13%), Energy (6.2%) and Tourism (6.2%).

More space at the Corporate Nest, more start-up incubation

On April 18th a new space will also be open at the DNA Corporate Nest, which was enlarged in order to receive new businesses. Currently, the building houses 28 businesses in the physical and open space incubation models, 16 virtual incubations and 3 projects which, due to their nature, occupy other spaces in the Corporate Nest. Aside from these 47 businesses, 13 other projects have also worked in the Corporate Nest, which, out of the 150 businesses supported by the agency, raises the number of businesses that benefited from incubation at the DNA to 60.

This infrastructure offers a set of facilities which constitute an added value to projects in their start-up phase, such as training and meeting rooms, a conference room with capacity for 90 persons, surveillance services and parking.
